Air Push hiding in free apps

Anyone else came across this nasty peice of forced advertising? has the potential to ruin google apps

I just block the internet permission on any apps that I don't think need to access internet

How do you do that? Does it require root access?

Yes you need root and you should be VERY careful with what permissions you want to deactivate since you don't want to break the app:
