AirDroid

I'd like to share you with this new app I just tried. It's called AirDroid.

I like taking pictures with my DHD and backup regularly to my laptop. But wiring my phone to laptop is so annoying, so I tried to search in the market for an app that can make wireless transfer happen. AirDroid caught my eyes with the little green paper plane on its icon among the listed apps.

I was surprised as I thought it would be just an app that sends data from device wirelessly. It turns out that AirDroid allows you to connect your phone from a desktop web browser and do all common management like in a Windows system. It can do files and tasks management, apps installation, texts reply like using an IM, and photos slideshow. I'm so impressed with the nice graphic and smooth operation.

I highly recommend you guys search and try it in the market. You may get thrilled as I was:D

One of the best designed Android apps I've seen. And it's even free. unbelievable.

It's certainly impressive and it's use of the screen under Linux is reminiscent of some commercial "remote operation" software of a few years back.

My current concern is that it could be mining all the users data whilst appearing to help the user control it. ? TNSTAAFL

Something I've just observed with Airdroid and depending on what browser you're using, is about transferring whole folders from the computer to the phone. With Google Chrome it offers the option "Select folder", however in Firefox it's not shown, it's "Select files" only.

Sure we've had this question asked, about transferring whole folders rather than files on an individual basic. Think previous answer was to zip the folder. But apparently it's not a limitation with Google Chrome.

mikedt, remember - a "folder" isn't a physical entity, it's a concept. There's a list of files "in" that "folder", but that's about the entire extent of a folder. You're not transferring a folder, you're creating a folder on the destination, then transferring each file in the source to the "folder" you created on the destination. The reason they didn't do it in Firefox could be something dependent on Firefox or there could be some other reason. (It's difficult enough reading someone else's code - reading their minds is something I gave up a long time ago.)

I know how Airdroid works when transferring files in a folder, when using Chrome. It creates the folder, then transfers the files in order, and does it automatically. I was transferring some music to my phone last night, and remembered about a couple of posts we've had here, about copying folders with Airdroid. Usually I used Firefox, but have started using Chrome more often now. Don't know if one can do it with IE though, as I don't have Windows.

I don't know why people are so impressed with this one. For all my devices, there is no guarantee that it will work. Plus, from AirDroid2, it forces registration (why do they want to know what I am transferring?)

I installed File Transfer, was free yesterday on AppGratis, works flawlessly. Impressed, deleted AirDroid right away.

There are plenty of apps that do the same thing as AirDroid, just some people prefer some apps over others, there will always be competition in the app market, and people will always have there opinions :)

Interesting and worrying.
