Help Alcatel One Touch, unable to connect to home wifi

Been trying to connect my wife's Alcatel Pixie Glitz One Touch to our home wifi. Both of our laptops and my phone are able to connect with no problem. Not sure what Android version this is. There is no "Android Version" entry under About Phone. Just a firmware version of 4.4.2.

Summary of the problem: the phone can see the wi-fi network, but it doesn't connect. Just says "Saved, secured with WEP" I think I was able to connect her phone to the wifi last year. But now, I select the network, select "Forget network", then select the network again to re-enter the wep password. Still doesn't connect. I've re-entered the password several times and no go. Sometimes it says it's connecting then goes to "Saved, secured with WEP". Other times it connects then indicates an "Authentication problem" I know I'm entering the correct password.

Anything in the phone that will help me diagnose this?

Do you have many devices that connect to the Wi-Fi at the same time?

Anyway, restart your Wi-Fi router to see if your phone can connect.

That's a 20 dollar phone. Not sure what or if this thing would even connect to WiFi... Why WEP? Do your other devices connect using WEP?. If you long press on the WiFi connection screen, choose Modify network, advanced options, username and passwords are correct?

WEP might be the problem, right there. Basically WEP(Wired Equivalent Protocol) has been found and was deprecated many years ago as completely insecure, and many modern devices just will not connect and/or support it. See about changing your WiFi router over to WPA, or even better WPA2 security. If your home WiFi router is so old that it only supports WEP, replace it.

My Windows 10 tablet and Oppo R9 Plus phone won't connect to WEP

Your secured with WEP network can be cracked and the password found by anyone, just by installing an app, it's that bad.

Thanks Mike and Dannydet for your responses. Didn't know about the WEP vulnerability. I may've selected wep because it was the first encryption on the list. That was six years ago. Fortunately, the router supports wpa2, so I'll switch to that. Hopefully, then, my wife's cheap phone can connect.
