Alert Tones - Help?

Hello, I'm new to Android (former iphone user)

I have downloaded and selected an alert tone...Prob is, its the same tone whether its a text, an email, an alert from CNN, etc.

Is there a way to assign a tone specifically for texts. Assign a diff tone for email, and so on?

Depends on the phone on how you do it, but for app specific notification tones, you set it up in the app settings itself. For example go to Messaging>Settings>Ringtone to make that tone for SMS only.
