All apps open and run at the same time. Why?!

Randomly, one day after looking at my Task Manager screen, it showed that almost every app was running. CityID, Contacts, Voice Recorder, Calculator, Clock, Memo, and a bunch of others I had not touched in days. I thought it was maybe a one-time thing, but it's been 4 days and my Active Applications list is still usually a mile long.

Being a new Android user, I thought maybe it was because of an app I had recently installed, so I uninstalled all the apps I had downloaded since I bought the phone.

Didn't fix anything.

Any ideas?

I have a brand new Evo 4g and notice the same thing.

It seems after doing very little on the phone, the memory gets down to about 80k in a short time. I've installed a lot of apps and it seems like they all run all the time whether I've used them or not.

I have ATK running to kill them every 30 minutes, but I'm wondering now whether that will help battery life at all since as soon as they're killed they just start back up again.

Anyone know why this is?

Most of those apps aren't running, they are suspended.

If you are on a phone running 2.2 like the EVO, then a task killer is making things worse.

If you have a terminal emulator you can run the command top -n3 -d5 and you will see that those apps are not using much CPU.

The task killer is hurting your battery because it will keep killing processes that the operating systems restarts automatically.

Some apps have an exit and they do not restart.

Being loaded and sitting does not mean they are running.
Swype is loaded at boot but is doesn't run until I invoke a keyboard.
It has the same costs in terms of battery to store a 0 in ram as a 1.
So let them load.

Yeah, like others have said, they aren't using any cpu power. They're simply loaded in ram encase you begin using them.
