Help all my videos are now jpegs

I moved a bunch of the videos on my android phone Samsung galaxy victory from the phone to the sd card and now they are all just jpegs or pictures. I don't understand why. Is there a way to get my videos back? If not then how do I prevent this from happening in the future?

I don't believe that the phone has somehow converted videos to stills (how does one even do that?) in the process of moving them, so my first guess is that what you are seeing now are the preview thumbnail images, which have somehow been moved instead of the videos. Hopefully this means the videos are still there somewhere. What did you use to move them?
