Are you able to store apps on SD?
I saw some videos with rooted Transforms and they seem laggy or choppy. I think an OTA for 2.2 will result in the Transform performing much smoother.

We have...
SuperUser which gives us...
Wifi Tether
CacheMate
Titanium Backup
Root Explorer
Quick Boot
A new recovery, AKA Custom Recovery (WHICH I LOVE)
We also get the ability to download the ported Android 2.2 from the Captivate to the Transform!
You get the ability to use custom ROMs which make your phone faster

And yeah, thats the jist of it, This really means that rooting your phone makes you a true Android user.

Congrats to me on my 150th post and the Transform's 1000th post on Phandroid! :D

Congrats TheAndroid, especially since its in my thread. LOL.
I know the advantages of rooting as I have a rooted G1 but to this day, I couldn't be satisfied with a ROM that did everything it was supposed to.

However, does the custom ROM make your transform run any smoother? What about apps2sd?

App2sd works on the Transform 2.2 port, and the custom ROM (Which is 2.1 not 2.2) removes Sprint ID and other bloatware and makes launcherpro your new home! Which is so much faster! And the port froyo has no ID or Sprint apps, so no bloatware there aswell.

If I don't get the update to 2.2 by 15th of next month then I am bolting to the Optimus S. The process of rooting the Transform and porting a ROM seems a little more painful than I thought since you have to load the kernel seperately?

If you don't feel like you can follow a video's directions... Then no one can really help you unless you use Skype video chat haha. Believe me I was reluctant to use custom ROMs and root my phone, but it was worth it and I truly love my phone now.

Thanks bro, can you tell me what steps you took and files you need? I will also look at the video. I have to start on scratch with this phone i.e get to know the bootloader mode, etc.

Haha, Ill get you set up with some videos bro.

This has everything you need to get you Root with custom recovery, and when your done, you can install froyo, BUT YOU NEED THE NEWEST FILES FOR THE NEWEST FROYO BUILD FROM SDX. ILL GET YOU THE 'FROYO4' FILE. DON'T USE THE 'FROYO' FILE IN THE FROYO VIDEO. Thanks! :)

Root:

Froyo:

These are all the files you'll need, but sure to follow ALL of Josh's instructions.

I've watched the videos several times, but I am left with one big question. When I use my USB cable to Transform, my computer doesn't recognize it. I don't know where to get the driver for the Transform. Every time I want to get stuff off of my SD card I have to email it or unmount it and put it in my computer manually. That seems to be a sticking point for this whole rooting process.

This is for XP
Your going to want to go to 'Control Panel' then to 'Add hardware' then go through the steps and click 'yes I have this connected' and then look for something with Samsung in the name, and let Windows look for the correct drivers. That should work.

I have Vista. I loved XP. The only Samsung drivers that come up are for printers and it never asks me if I have anything connected. The current driver that is installed is labeling it as an Android UMS Composite USB device and not giving me the option of accessing the SD card via windows explorer. When I try to update the driver it searches online and tells me that it is the most up to date driver available. I don't know why it doesn't find something Samsung branded.

Never mind, I just realized I had an RTFM problem. It was between the keyboard and the chair. Problem fixed.

Beautiful. Haha. Are you going to just root or go the full 5 miles? (Just an expression)

Also sorry about my outdated OS, I'll be getting a new computer when the next Windows OS comes out, which will be within the next 1 or 2 years, just because Windows 7 is beginning to age... It would be like me buying a Windows 95 PC in January of 98. I'd be very disappointed in the coming months haha.

I'm going full blown 2.2 of course. I am rooting right now. I just downloaded the SW Updater and kernel. I did have one other question though. You reference one file for 2.2, and NYCE mentions a FroyoRC1. Are they the same? Is one a newer version than the other? I downloaded the one you linked but am using his tutorial which is outstanding.

Alright, I'm going to need to check out that file and see if this is just the fix for the orientation which has been fixed in V4.... I'm not sure if he took that guide off SDX Dev. Or had a lot of time on his hands, but he sure as heck posted it all over the forums o.O

EDIT: You can just go through without using the FroyoRC, its another version of Froyo that was edited by ZRMXP85 which fixed certain keys on the keyboard, and I wouldn't recommend using it because he just bought a Epic 4G which means he will no longer be updating this build if anymore bugs pop up, but Vampirefo will be updating his build which includes all bug fixes. Just use the Froyo link i gave you.

Sorry for a little bit of thread hijacking, but I tried this and Samsung isn't listed at all. The only thing it may be is "Unknown Device". I've tried installing drivers from the Samsung website, tried different cords, factory restored my phone, turned both my phone and computer on and off, downloaded Android SDK, tried USB debugging on and off, and tried every port on my computer. It still won't recognize! I have Windows XP.... I'll keep fooling around with it, but any help would be appreciated!

What does Cachemate good for?

Disclaimer: I know nothing about rooting, porting, etc.

Is it possible to change the "slide to hang up" aspect of the Transform if one roots/loads 2.2? That could be enough to make me actually try it.

Cachemate frees up the cache on your phone. My father after he rooted and and used cache mate freed 12mb.

Can't get Cachemate to work. It never asked for root rights though. It just sits there trying to clean cache. I downloaded Cachemate by Made in Brooklyn. I'm assuming its the one you were talking about. Even got the paid version. Any ideas?

UPDATE: emailed the dev and he was real helpful. Phone seems snappier now. Great dev to deal with too. emailed me back in minutes from when i mailed him.

I have found after loading 2.2 that I have the option to end a call with the power button. It is a setting I have only noticed after installing 2.2.
