Alvin Lee Has Left US

I can't say that Alvin Lee was much of an influence on me personally. But Ten Years After did introduce me to the Helios mixing console.

Did he die well?

Had never heard of him or 10 Years After until I heard an obit on Friday. Sounds like he was gifted musician.

Apparently, after the Woodstock movie came out and 10 Years After suddenly became really famous, he went to his manager and said he didn't want that level of fame! The band basically stopped touring for a couple of years till the fuss died down.

Bummer...first I've heard.....listen to him all the time. Great guitarist....played some awesome fast blues...check out youtube.

Course I'm from the Woodstock generation!!!

I've listen to the song, Spoonful, by TYA and Cream, both playing live and I must say TYA version is the best. They rocked it.

Saw him live in Port Chester NY. I can hear the Vulcan upstairs playing bass along with "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl"

What many don't realise is it was written in 1959 or '60 by the late great Willie Dixon, who based it lyrically on a song called "Spoonful Blues" by Charlie Patton in the late 1920s. Take a listen to Howlin' Wolf's version (the first recording of it):
