Always Have to Press Left Arrow to Go to Home Screen?

I'm new at this. I just bought a Cat S31 and upgraded the OS to 8.1. I find it really annoying that I have to press the left arrow button every time I want to go back to the home screen.
I posted a question on a Google forum and they said to contact the manufacturer. I did, and they stupidly told me to do a hard reset. I know it wouldn't work, and it didn't. It deleted everything, of course.
I called back and they said that pressing the left arrow button is the only way.

Any thoughts? Is this about the OS or the device?
 
This is a launcher issue, it's the one that's preloaded on your device by the manufacturer.
Just go to the play store and install a different launcher. ( a launcher controls your home screen)....
I use Nova launcher prime and wouldn't live without it. You can basically customize your screen as you wish.

I appreciate that, but it's not an issue. It's a problem. I'll try Nova launcher. Thanks.

So their support are crap - lesson learned ;l

What buttons does it have on the nav bar? I'd have expected 3 with android 8.1, in which case the centre one should take you to home, but it's possible that the manufacturer messed with this themselves. I ask because this is something that has changed a couple of times in the last few years and so it's best not to assume what navigation setup the phone will have.
