Always on display not displaying email notification

If I send an email to myself, my Galaxy S7 plays the notification sound that email has been received, but it does not display any indication of an email being received on the always on display. If I call my S7, there is an icon displayed indicating that I missed a vall.

I checked the settings in:

Settings -> Display and wallpaper -> Always On Display

And I don't see any option to turn this feature on or off.

Any idea why email notifications are not being displayed?

Are you using the email app that came loaded on your S7 ? That is the only email app that the always on screen will respond to.

The Gmail app doesn't work with AOD. Just the Email app. You can use your Gmail with that app.
