Help Always on "earphones"

thnidu

Lurker
Within the past hour my Android phone * suddenly always thinks that earphones are plugged into it, and it does not use the normal sound outputs. This is a serious problem since I can't use it as a speakerphone or indeed a normal phone, or many other uses. Any ideas?

* Samsung Verizon Android Galaxy S-3, SCH-I535, OS v4.4.2

Check the jack for dirt or other foreign objects.
Did you try a reboot?
Jack may need replacement.

I powered it down and left it that way for half an hour or so. Since I restarted it about 10min ago, it's been okay (knock on wood) so far.

It's been overheating A LOT lately; I have too many apps, too many of them are running, and I don't know how to stop them them without continual intervention (DU Speed Booster).

@glc: I blew over and into the socket, and reamed it out some with the plastic toothpick from my Swiss Army Knife. (Amazing, the unexpected ways those things come in handy.) There didn't seem to be anything, though.

@dontpanicbobby (great ID for a guide!): Thanks, I might try it.
