Amazon $49.99 Offer

Amazon is offering the Moto X, 16gb on contract with Verizon. I'm not sure about other carriers. Now they are making it hard for me to decide what to do come December. I wonder would this offer still be in effect by then?

I really would like to let the contract end and buy a cheaper phone straight out and go with Tmobile prepaid but coming up with around $200 may be a challenge at this time.

I could go with this Amazon deal and get the phone for the $49.99 price but get another 2 yr. contract with vzw.

Confused at this time.

There must be a reason why you are thinking about switching to T-Mobile. I'd say taking on another contract seems counter to that reason. Of course I don't know what will happen for sure, but it sure seems that prices tend to go down and stay down over time, and the holiday shopping season seems like a great time to be looking at unsubsidized phones on T-Mobile.

Only you can make that decision, though. I took on another Verizon contract because I knew I would stay with them for the next two years anyway. But, you're not me.

By the way, it may be that Amazon is lowering the price anticipating that Verizon will be joining the MotoMaker club later this month, so they may be trying to get rid of inventory guessing that many Verizon customers will choose to buy a customized Moto X going forward. That's just another guess, though.

Paying for a decent phone outright is not really in my budget, I could maybe get one around $200 or less, then I could switch from vzw. I really don't want a contract. Plus I may be moving by the end of this month. I still have some time to decide what to do.

Thnx for the reply.

If you say you could only do $200 for a phone outright...I don't know where you are going to get a phone like that unless you go buy an older phone off Ebay. It sounds like going on contract is about your best option at this point.

If you want a good phone for cheap you should grab the Nexus 5.

The Moto X is still better than the N5 in some ways though, (and worse in others)

Tmobile has an awesome prepaid plan for $30/mo for new customers (can take some effort to find it on their site and you need to but a $2 SIM from them to start). Only problem is you cant use Google voice as your voice mail or main number on the prepaid plans. Some weird compatibility thing.

But I think the Moto X for Tmobile is still only available full price from Moto (dropped to $500 now though)

Still, IF TMO has good coverage in your area, then the phone will easily pay for itself in like 6 months.

Maybe check 3G and 4G LTE Cell Coverage Map - OpenSignal or something (remember they are biased to where people travel, so it looks like highways etc have the best coverage).

FWIW, I went with t-mo and could not be happier. YMMV :)

I've been looking at this low end LG Optimus F6 phone that has come out in the past few months. It's going for around $180, I could buy it and switch over to Tmo. Later down the road, when my finances are better go for the N5, my dream machine!

Thnx.
