Help Amazon fire hd vs samsung

So the time has come for me to get a new tablet. I currently have a ipad 3 and its kessing up too bad beyond the point of fixing. Now i dont want to get another ipad basically because of the price being too hgh for so little that i do. I go on youtube st night and watch subscriptions, i watch my dvr through comcast, facebook, minimal web surfing, so i really dont want anything too expensive.

I know these might not be popular choices on here, but u know those samsung tablets u can find at almost any store, walmart, radio shack, those type, i was wondering between that and the amazon fire hd, which one is better? Again i know there are better androids and more expensive ones out there, but for as little as i do, i dont want to spend too much. I used to play games all the time, but i dont even play games anymore on it. If someone could help me between those two, it would be great.

The only thing about an Amazon Fire tablet is that they overlay their own stuff, it's not a straight up Android. Samsung does too, but all the functionality is there. Amazon limits some stuff, most notably Google Play Store. I don't have one so others are going to have to chime in but it's something to keep in mind.

Didnt know about the plAy store, so if someone could help me on that, itd be great. I kind of just have normal apps, facebook, tumblr, youtube, i have the comcast app so i can watch my dvr, i have player xtreme, but any video player would work i guess, viki and drama fever for my kdrama shows. Not much more than that, but i can see how limitations could be bad down the road. But can someone help me on what limits there are on fire hd?

As you don't appear to be firmly committed to a particular platform and the actual hardware isn't a major deciding factor, your choice of one over the other does seem to be based on your usage habits. Try taking a look at what apps are and are not available from both Amazon app collection and Google Play, paying specific attention to those online services you listed:
Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/b/ref=nav_shopall_1_ods_tab_con_apps?ie=UTF8&node=3427287011
Google
https://play.google.com/store/apps
And be honest with yourself, evaluate everything you do on your current iPad along with what you might want to do in the near future. Don't just base your choice between an Amazon or Android tablet by your current habits, try to allow for what you might want to do.
