An app to pay my bill?

John Jason

Unless I have missed something, T-Mobile has created an epic fail. Like, the FIRST thing any business does is make it easy for customers to pay them. Not T-Mobile. You have to call 611 and go through mindless menuing (which I hate), or you can do it on your computer (which I don't always have with me).

I recently acquired a Note 3, replacing a SGS2. On my old phone I had an app "My Account" or something like that, where I could just pay the bill with my debit or credit cards. But on my Note 3 the only thing I can find is the T-Mobile My Account app. Not only does it not allow you to pay the bill, it has a bug where it continually says there is no data connection (yet I can search on Amazon, eBay, etc., so obviously my data connection is fine).

I have a prepaid plan which will next charge me on April 3. I decline to set up automatic payments. Please tell me there is a simple app for paying my bill with the phone that actually works.

You can pay through your bank app.

Maybe.

First, I don't know what my T-Mobile account number is, unless it is the phone number, but I don't know how to verify that. This is a prepaid account so T-Mobile doesn't mail me a statement that has an account number on it.

Second, the card I want to use is a Linux Fund credit card. I have a mobile app for it where I can see the account, but there is no bill pay function like you would have with a checking account. I paid the account with this card using the "My Account" app on my old SGS2 and had no problem. I want to use this card as much as possible because the Linux Fund gets a tiny percentage on all my charges, and I like to support Linux.

Did you create a T-Mobile account? Phone number is the account number and it will want a password.

You may need to create the account first through the web. That's how I set mine up, using my computer.

OK, that gets me the account number. But my Linux Fund card does not have a bill pay function (I just tried it). Note that this is a credit card, not a debit card attached to a checking account.

I wonder if Samsung had anything to do with the app? I don't know why companies make it more complicated then it need to be.

Maybe someone else will come along with a solution.

I have discovered a couple more things about the non[Legacy] app. First, it was written by T-Mobile. Second, it is a beta version. I can't uninstall it, but I can uninstall the updates. I did so, and then reinstalled the updates. Afterwards when I launched it I got a message about the recent updates, and that paying your bill with the app is "coming soon." In fact, the home page of the app has a link to pay the bill, but it is grayed out.

I don't know why it was necessary to rewrite the [Legacy] version of the app. But I do know that releasing a version that does not enable the customer to pay the bill is lame beyond belief. That is the FIRST feature that should have been enabled. I wonder if the CEO of Deutsche Telekom is aware of this massive fail. Maybe I should be shopping for a different carrier.

Oh, and I also discovered that it could not access my account information because I was connected via wifi at home. The app cannot work through wifi; you have to use the 4G data. Yet another fail.

That is very strange. I purchased my Moto G phone in Dec. and once I started using Tmo, I installed the app, but I think I may have gotten the app from their website instead of the Play Store. I really can't remember which one at this point, but I'm able to pay my bill without issues. I do not use the Device Health part of the app, it is buggy, at least when I first installed the app.

I had the "non" legacy app for a long time because it worked nicely for me. But, there was a recent update so the non legacy and legacy apps were merged.

(I have an unlocked GNote2/AT&T brand so I was able to install/uninstall any Tmobile apps)

In the mytmobile app, under Account Info do you see a section "Billing & refill"? You can pay there. I set up my credit cards online and it has my cc's ready to choose there. I still don't like this new app, though. I liked the old non legacy app. I am on wifi at home and can access it but it does use 4G to get the account info. I see my 4g logo/data logo light up when accessing the account on my phone

Hey Sap, the one you linked above, is that the one you use? Because that is the most up to date one. I was using the old one and it updated to this new one. I like T-Mobile alot but these apps are confusing.

I finally found an app that works. It is a free T-Mobile app called T-Mobile Refill. All it does is take payments to refill a prepaid phone account - no phone diagnostics, no change my plan, nothing except take a payment. It works perfectly.

Thanks to all for your help and suggestions.

Well I am on post paid, and the app always worked on the moto g, atrix hd, cyanogen mod on the mytouch and now working on my Sony TL. I didn't have to autopay, so wonder if it is prepaid... But on metro had no issues.

I just added this app. Seems to be a better app for us prepaid users. Good find.

Yes I believe it is the latest one.
