An app to turn off 2G/3G?

I use cardiotrainer on long bike rides and i'm trying to conserve as much battery on my Desire as possible.

I'd like to be able to turn off the phone 'side' of the desire and just use it as a data logger. Also I don't want to be disturbed by people trying to call me.

So is the an app that acts as a phone on/off switch?

humm you should try putting it in Airplane mode. it should do what you want.

But wont that also switch off GPS?

I'm guessing if Mr Sword is using cardiotranier on a bike ride he's probably tracking his route.

You could at least turn off the internet by holding the power button.

Indeed I am using GPS! At the moment I turn off the 3G radio but I was wondering if you could turn off the 2G radio as well?

I just want my smart phone to be smart!

humm ya true I gorgot about the gps thing.

If you don't wan't to be bothered by the phones calls you could also try to forward your calls to your voicemail number while doing your jogging. Or put your ringtone to silent mode, so you just won't hear it.

Switch pro has an icon that lets you turn of your data connection. I'm not sure how effective this is but I've used it in battery critical situations with my droid and it seemed to help.

Thanks mate! It works!

Just tried it out and the GPS will still track you in airline mode. I guess as GPS only receives signals that the airlines aren't bothered about it, as opposed to the 2G/3G radios which transmit signals.
