Help An app with "No permissions requested" is able to access internet?

Hi,

Downloaded an app from apkpure, the app requested no permissions during the installation, Settings>General>Apps>TheApp also shows "No permissions requested" under the app's permissions.

However, the following seems a bit strange:

* Airplane mode OFF: the app shows ads and seems to be able to access the internet (the data exchange icon indicates downloading/uploading activity)
* Airplane mode ON: the app does NOT show ads (perhaps because it's not able to access the internet)

How is the app able to access the internet if no permissions were granted to it?

Thanks

This is because Google does not believe that the ability for an app to access the internet is classed as a permission. Thus you will never see or get a request from app to access the internet.

Basically assume every app will have the ability to access the internet.

That's one hell of a "feature". Any suggestions how to restrict network access on per app basis? Any free firewall apps out there? Other ideas?

Thanks

I'm not up on the latest ways to block internet access, but most of them will require root access to perform the task.

Personally I use to use Avast, but Im not sure if the firewall ability is still active as it was not the last time I used it. Tho it did state is was coming back and did work quite well. I'm sure some others will be able to advise you better on this matter. ;)

Tried Kronos no-root FW, looks good but doesn't seem to work or perhaps I did something wrong.

The NoRoot FW instructions say "NoRoot Firewall may not work on LTE because NoRoot Firewall currently doesn't support IPv6." I'm on LTE so perhaps that's why Kronos FW did not work for me as well. Any ideas?

Thanks to everyone who responded.
