Android 10 feelings.

I was just updated to Android 10 today and I was excited!

That is untill after the update installed. Now I want my previous version back!.

The new feel of the system is bulky to me, the re-arrangement of a lot of the visual aspect is breaking my eyes and hurting my brain... Dark mode is cool, I immediately turned it off, no real reason to have it. Not having the option to go full screen in my apps unless its enabled by default is annoying. There was this nice little option on the nav bar that if you double tapped it, the app would go full screen and the nav bar would go away. Thats no longer an option. The way the settings are displayed feel awkward and look foreign to me. We have no option to select how our lock screen will display our date/time anymore! I liked it in the middle of my device. Now its in the upper left corner where my eyes do not naturally wander. The update to the camera software is a very nice touch. And no longer having to restart my device after a security update is a very nice feature. So we lost some features which were nice and useful in the previous version and gained a few new nice and not so nice features.

Which device do you have? Android 10 is not in itself very different from 9 for the user, so it's possible that some of what you describe is actually not android 10 itself but other changes that the manufacturer has added to their version (e.g. lock screen clocks are definitely a manufacturer thing, as is that nav bar tapping thing you describe).

It's unlikely that anyone can help, but knowing what device you are talking about may improve the chances of someone being able to suggest something useful.

I've been using Android 10 for seven months on a Huawei that originally came with Android 8, that was subsequently updated to Android 9. And I've just not seen anything like what you're describing.

It could be issues, or features from the manufacturer of the particular phone or tablet you're using, and their implementations and customizations of Android 10, like their camera software.

What device have you actually got there, make, model, and variant?

Android is kind of like Linux, well actually it is Linux, and in the spirit of Linux, the look and feel is pretty much up to the authors of the UI for the most part.

All of the hype over Android 10, the publicity, so I decided it can't be too bad. Holy crap how wrong I was. I'm now searching for ways to wind back to Android 9. WiFi is pathetic with the upgrade. I can be right next to my router and it tells me no connection. Battery drain was meant to be improved. I guess it was, my battery now drains faster than ever, New stupid locks on screens in the middle of using an app. Its hopeless.

Just when I thought that the Samsung S9 couldn't get any worse too. Don't get me started on that aspect.

If you haven't allowed an upgrade to 10. Personally its not something I would do. For me not a positive experience at all.

Well thanks for reading, I'm heading back to attempt to downgrade my phone...

It's absolutely fine on my Pixel 2, which was released with 8.0.

Sometimes major updates can bring problems due to incompatibilities with some bit of data left over from the old phone; If so backing up and factory resetting will fix that, though it's a hassle.

The problem is, if you just get an update and something doesn't work you don't know whether the problem is with android 10 itself, the manufacturer's implementation for that particular phone (including the other changes they've made that are nothing to do with android 10), the carrier's additional changes to what the manufacturer provided, or something specific to your particular phone. But in fact the first oone is the least likely (android 10 works fine on many devices). The second and third you might be able to find out about by comparing with the experiences of others using the same phone, or the same phone from the same carrier. But severe problems, of the sort that even minimal testing would uncover, are likely to be specific to your device.

There's always a period of adjustment, after an update. Just have to give it time to settle in.
My issue is that while I love my dark screen, I done love it on everything. I'm just looking for a happy medium where the OS can play nice with the rest of the phone.
