Android 2.1

If you have the Moto Droid, you should be getting it soon. I believe they sending out 200,000 updates every night.

Hang in there...it's coming...I got mine this morning...

I got my update this morning and have not had a phone since. Stuck on startup screen (flashing red eye). May have to do a factory reset and lose all my data, to recover.

Wish I would have said NO !

Got mine this morning as well, about 6:30 Pacific time. So far I don't see any differences, aside from speach-to-text feature being added on, and hepatic feedback isn't working any more in texting. :/

I did the manual update and found that I was loosing screens, getting reboots, slowing down
after I ran live wallpaper. The fix was to turn off the live wall paper. My phone is the Motorola Droid.

I guess if you're interested in doing anything special with your phone then you may not like it because it takes away root access needed by some applications like barnakle the hub wifi application.

Ok, so I'm trying to figure out all the new goodies that came with 2.1. Keep in mind that I'm on a Moto Droid running DXTop. Here is what I've noticed:

1. Virtual keyboard has changed slightly, seems better calibrated and has haptic feedback turned off (thank you for that).

2. Google Googles and Lattitude are now installed

3. The gallery program was replaced. The new one is really snazzy.

4. There was an update to google maps. only thing I've notice is that streetview now has neat floating labels

5. multi-touch is now everywhere. the browser, google maps and the gallery all have multitouch turned on now.

That's all I've seen thus far. Is there anything else i should be looking for or anything that was turned on by default that I might want to consider turning off. some of you have commented that live wallpapers is turned on, but since I'm on DxTop, I haven't seen any change in that regard.

I did look at my wife's Droid and noticed that her drawer did not change to the mini icon arrangement used in the N1. Wasn't that supposed to be part of the update as well (or is that an option to be enabled?).

So I'm I missing any goodies?

Got my update this morning on my Moto Droid ...
Interesting observation - go into settings, scroll down to about phone, click on that and look at the "Firmware version" ... mine says "2.1-update1" as if to imply there's an update 2 or more coming.

Yes they are supposed to come in spurts.

I'm a few hours from being a Droid owner, so I don't know for sure. But I believe 2.1 is supposed to give you voice input for text. If you're sending an e-mail or text you can talk it in instead of typing.

I thought the same but left it running. It takes several minutes for it to boot back up.. might try again.

I'm using 2.1 but this feature is missing along with the turn-by-turn navigation on the latest Google Maps. Could be device-dependent though as i'm on the HTC Legend.
