Android 2.2 (Froyo) / Droid X or Samsung Galaxy S?

Does anyone have an official general release date for 2.2, Froyo. I know that Nexus One's are supposed to be getting theirs in the next few days however what about the rest of the phones.

I am about to change my contract and buy either a Droid X or one of the Samsung Galaxy S phones all of which I believe will be upgradeable to 2.2 once its released. Just wondering if anyone has heard when its going to be released to everyone.

Also am somewhat undecided as to which phone to go with. All of them seem to be pretty awesome however have heard that the Samsung has the better processor.

Nexus One already has Froyo I believe. I've heard that Droid X gets an update sometime in the fall, and the Galaxy S series getting one in the next few weeks. The Samsung has already been rooted so apparently there's a few guys working on porting 2.2 to it before Samsung officially releases it. Hope this helps.
