ANDROID 2.2 on DROID/MILESTONE?

Hello Hello...
I need some experts help...
I have a Motorola MileStone AKA Droid
1. Is it possible to install the new 2.2 update manually or should I wait for
a formal release?
2. There is a leak of this update on the net..as far as I know its for N1..
is it safe to install it on my device?
