Android 2.2 on EVO?

I went to the android website and saw that 2.2 is out. However when I try to go into the firmware update on my phone, it says that its already up to date with 2.1.

Any ideas?

Is it that 2.2 needs to be released specifically for the EVO? If so, have they said when?

You are exactly correct. You have to wait until the update is available for your phone. The Droid Eris for example was stuck on 1.5 for a long time even though 1.6,2.0,2.0.1, and 2.1 were already out. A 2.1 update was eventually released for the Eris.
