Root Android 2.2 ver 3.70.651.1 - can this be rooted?

Hi, the latest update kinda perturbed me a bit with a few things that are never going to be used by me and I'd like to remove them and recover as much of the memory and processing power as I can. I rooted the samsung moment several times with no issues.. Is there a way to just add root to my existing phone and have the opportunity to remove the apps I no longer want?
