Android 7.0 / LG G5 - phone does not hang up

This is a very weird problem. We had a previous LG G5 that ran a version of Android 6; for whatever reason, it crashed and was replaced with this new one, which has Android 7.0

We never had problems with the phone on Android 6 (or at least, not after we changed to True Phone). But on this one, the phone dialer is susceptible to the problem of not being able to hang up calls. You push the red button in the phone app to end the call, and nothing happens for about 30 seconds. It will finally hang up, in most cases, after a long delay.

This happens both with the native phone dialer and the replacement app we have been using, True Phone. It happens regardless of whether the option to end calls using the power button is on or off.

What is truly odd is that this does not seem to affect frequently called numbers, but it does definitely affect new numbers, i. e. ones that have not been dialed before. The initial call to the number times out and hangs up after long delay, and this might happen several times. Eventually the red hang-up button works and thereafter it works regularly FOR THAT NUMBER.

This might only be a minor annoyance except for the fact that the nature of our business requires us to make many new calls to new numbers, sometimes large numbers of them in succession, and this is an impossibility with this phone.

Have searched and found that this, or something related thereto, seems to be a not uncommon issue with Android 7.0; but there seems to be no proposed solution, other than using the "end call with power button" option, which does not seem to work.

You would think that phoning would be the most basic, required, bottom-line functionality on a phone; why does this not work ? We have got to the point of wanting to switch back to a flip phone, or to one of a stack of old low-end 4.4.2 phones we have lying around. At least the phone functionality worked on them.
