Android 8.1 - vibration alert for SMS

Hello.

I always put the phone in vibrating mode, and set it to not show notifications on lock screen.

The notification part is ok, but now, I realized that everytime I receive a message, the phone does not vibrate. It vibrates only when I receive a call, even though the notifications of the text messages are activated (most of the time, the battery saving is disabled too)...

Since I don't want the phone to give audible alerts, and for some reason I don't know, it also doesn't give vibratory alerts, I'm not able to know when I receive a message. When I unlock the screen, I see messages sent to me like 2 hours ago or something. It's annoying.

It's a Nokia 3.1. Not sure if that matters...

If somebody can help me, I appreciate.

Thank you.

Which phone it is does matter because that will determine what message app is installed by default. Certainly vibrate on messages received worked on my Pixel when I was on 8.1, so it is either a feature of Nokia's implementation, your message app or some quirk of your particular setup.

It may not be the answer you want, but a quick work around is to try a different message app. Unless you rely on some particular feature of your current one that will probably fix it. I assume you have checked right through your message app's settings for anything that might affect this?

Thank you for your reply.

It´s confusing... I thought that I might set some option the wrong way, but this issue never happened to me before; I thought that the cell phone might have some malfunction, but as I said already, it vibrates when I receive calls; and I thought about downloading a message app from the store and pre-define it, but I was not sure if it's rightful to blame an app installed by factory.

But I gess I will follow your suggestion, and then, I'll tell you something.

Just now, I tried another message app, I received a message, and the phone vibrated... You were right. Your suggestion worked. Thank you again.
