Android 8 Q's (just upgraded from Android 5)

I Finally got a new Android phone, the excellent Xiaomi Mi A1.
So I left my 4 year old Samsung S4 with Android 5.0 and now how Android 8.0

It seems that the settings menu has been really simplified though and I don't see many options.
For example, here are three things I could do with help on:

1. I want the ringtone loud but to be able to adjust the notifications (such as Whatsapp recept ping) sounds at a lower volume. Is that not possible?

2. My Google Calendar on my windows Desktop in Chrome pushes listings to my phone but listings put on my phone calendar don't push them to the desktop?

3. When I connect my phone via the usb charger cable that came with it, to my pc or laptop it says 'this device is empty'?

Thanks in advance for any help

I made a similar jump last year (5.0.2 to 8.0). It's always hard to tell what is Android and what is the manufacturer, but briefly:

1: this has been the way for a couple of years now. There's a thread that's currently active discussing this at https://androidforums.com/threads/h...-and-notification-volume-marshmallow.1106711/ (or you can just choose a quiet tone for WhatsApp).

2. That's a problem with your account settings somewhere (whether on phone or computer isn't easy to say). Sync is certainly still 2 way with Oreo.

3. Never seen that, though I don't use Windows so may not be best person to advise. Check what sort of usb connection you have set as default is my best guess.
