Android Apps Want My Location

I have the following device: LG Volt / Android Version 4.4.2

My phone's location settings are set to off at: Settings>Personal>Location>Mode>OFF

There are numerous apps that need updating. Before I click "ACCEPT", on that same screen, they say "XYZ App also needs access to "Location".

I do NOT want all these apps, or my phone in general, tracking my every move. So if I have my phone's location setting set to OFF, and I click ACCEPT, will the apps turn on my phone's location feature? Or will they simple gain no benefit from the location setting since it's set to OFF?

Please advise. Thanks in advance!

Use different apps.... And let the developer know if your not using them because of excessive permissions.

Many apps use advertising to pay for them, and a general Location is useful for the advertisers. But if you are unhappy with that payment method, either see if there is a paid version, or use something else.

Sometimes it isn't advertising. Astronomy apps, weather apps, photography apps will need them. You can turn it off in most cases, but the photos won't save location in the EXIF which might matter for copyright, and live view in astronomy and weather need at least GPS. I keep the other location services off.

MLB wants location. You can watch any game but blackout rules apply until 90 minutes after the game is over.
I agree about the paid apps. I prefer to buy mine.

Check out the last paragraph on this app.

I think all developers should be made to list and explain. A few good words of explanation are worth more than an exercise in trying to fix what users perceived as a fib and a whole lot easier on customer relations.

I've seen a few others, especially for paid apps that explain. It's appreciated.
