Android Auto Head Unit using Waze & Google Play Music

Howdy,

I have a pretty straight forward question. I am about to dump some money on a new head unit for my car. This one to be specific: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_113DMX7704/Kenwood-DMX7704S.html?tp=78184&avf=Y

My question is: Will I be able to use Waze and Google Play Music at the same time with Android Auto?

A question requiring a bit more detail: If yes to the above, what is the experience like? Will Waze run in the background? Will Google Play Music run in background? What is the experience like?

I have multiple AA/Car Play Head Units in our vehicles and some will do what you are describing. You will want to confirm that the Head Unit has two (2) separate USB ports. The current generation do not have designated ports so the only way you will be using Navi & Music is via a tethered connection and playing off your mobile device as AUX or Bluetooth. The Pioneer AVH 4200NEX does have the USB ports for both mobile device and iPod but not sure if you can still find them for sale. I have recently installed the Pioneer AVH 3300NEX, and 2330NEX and neither of those units will do what you are asking without a second designated USB port.
