Android auto is not working in my 2017 gmc sierra

Hi. I have a Samsung s7edge and downloaded android auto to my phone. I tried to sync it via USB to my 2017 gmc sierra but it will not sync. The android auto on my phone doesn't recognize my truck. So I bought a factory USB cable and still doesn't register. My buddy has a iPhone and his registered to my truck on carplay. Why can't I get this to work. Please help!!!!

Do you know if the GMC head unit is actually supposed to support Android Auto? Probably have to check the specs or your GMC dealer for that. Because it sounds like it's only working with iPhones, i.e. it's using Apple CarPlay only.

I haven't but I just assumed that it does because it has android auto icon on my menu in my truck.

Works on our '16 Caddy, so it should be on your Jimmy. AA is pretty fickle about setup, it all has to be done with the engine running and vehicle parked, are you doing that? Once set up, it should auto-connect when you plug in the cable.

I can sympathize with you on this, I've owned GM and Chevy products for years, and each year it's been hit or miss getting Bluetooth, Android Auto, to work, if at all...
My 2016 Trax connects to Bluetooth with never an issue, but my 2018 Trax sometimes will and sometimes will not.
Tried everything to no avail.
Technically I'd ditch Android Auto altogether and just Bluetooth it.

- Throw your radio away and get a better one (really), make sure the new one is Bluetooth compatible.
- Connect device to BT radio
- Get a Bluetooth OBD2 sensor (plugs into CPU conector).
- Download Torque Pro.apk, connect device & Torque.apk.. Set the Torque app to read the BT adapter. This will also periodically scan for code faults. Now if you connect everything correctly, you've manually made Android Auto which will literally be atrocious. Also, that USB port in the car for Android Auto never puts out enough juice (maybe half), so just use preexisting power ports or add new ones..

Curious if you ever found a solution for this. Android Auto worked in my 2017 Mustang with my $20 ZTE phone, but now that I bought an Elephone S8, it won't connect. Bluetooth is fine, but the car screen won't show Android Auto like it did with the cheap phone.

I know this is old but one of the first that comes up when searching for this issue. I found if you long press the home button it comes up and asks if you want to enable Android Auto. After selecting yes I was able to use it without any issues. Not sure how it gets disabled but I was searching for this answer for a long time.

I had the same problem with my Subaru Outback. I had downloaded the app from play store. It wouldn't work. The solution was to reset the phone and let the car load android auto. I have no experience with your car but you may want to check the owner manual about using android auto. Incidentally, the newest version of android auto is pretty good.
