Root Android beginner, some questions..

I have just bought an Orange San Francisco i know it's not great, but i didn't want to spend a fortune until i am at least more familiar with Android.
I have been told it can be improved quite a lot by 'rooting' & then installing a rom can someone possibly guide me through how to do this (not too complicated please!) & how do i decide which is the best rom to use after rooting..?

Okay well there are some things that you should know about rooting your phone. 1. You should realize that rooting a phone hacking into it will void your warranty. 2. You will be taking a chance at what they call bricking your phone basically making it as good as a paper weight.
I would honestly myself get usto the phones settings play around with it. Try installing some applications and games on it first but that is just me as not knowing where to find certain settings your going to need to know where to find them when rooting will make it all the more harder on you.
I do not know this phone myself but I am sure there will be some people from here that will be able to help you with opening up root options on your phone good luck.

In my personal experience, the OSF is one of the easiest handsets to root and install a custom ROM on. You can be running your new ROM as quickly as 20 mins after starting the process, it's a completely different phone once you've done it too. Take a look at some of the stickies in this subforum, then let us know if you have any questions.
