android device manager still not working for me or google+ commute

got my new 32gb nexus 5 yesterday after finally retiring my galaxy nexus

when the android device manager launched it kept coming up for mine location unavailable yet on my wifes nexus 4 it worked fine i cross referenced all the settings between hers and mine and they were the same

tried with my my nexus 5 yesterday and it still says unavailable

also on the google now cards my wifes tells her when i am home but mine does nothing

ihave ticked unticked restarted just about everything but still nothing

posted a thread on the google product forums when i was using the galaxy nexus but never got an official response

any one else had this problem and got it working

Make sure that GPS is on. Run GPS Essenials (free at the Play store). See if you're receiving satellites and if you're getting a fix. Sounds to me like operator error (you're overlooking some little thing) or the GPS receiver is dead out of the box.
