Android email setup using Exchange Webmail info

I work for a company that uses Exchange server and has webmail access for us. We use Outlook in the building and webmail when away. We don't have a good IT support person who can give me the necessary settings here locally and asking corporate for the info is impossible.

When I had my Blackberry a Verizon tech support guy was able to help me set it up from the information in my webmail URL. I don't remember his trick for getting all the settings so I was hoping someone here might know how. If anyone knows how I can setup my DroidX to connect with the Exchange server using just the info from Outlook or Webmail I would appreciate it?

Thanks

Where I work you need the following info:

Domain: ask your network admin or who ever manages the exchange server
Mail server: for me this is the url to outlook web access
username: you username for ur email
password: your email password

also SSL for me anyways needs to be checked.

Thats all I need to give my users for them to be able to setup both Iphones and Android phones/devices.

Also...active sync on the exchange server must be setup first and he has to give your account this access.

I have already asked the IT guy here locally but he won't give me any of the details because he doesn't really understand his job and may not even know the answers. He just pretends to know what he is doing so it is kind of worthless and I don't have any access to the Corporate IT dept without going through him.

Do you know if the Domain is actually part of the URL?

what is ur web url for outlook? yes usually it is in the url address. for our company our domain is leacounty so our url for email is mail.leacounty.net. hope that helps. send what ut url is to access the outlook through the web.

When you login to the web portal, you probably login with something like:

DOMAIN\username

Put whatever is before the slash as the domain, and after the slash is your username.

Server address is the web address without any of the htts:// (e.g. emailserver.com)

Use SSL.

You should be aware that they have to enable mobile access. It may or may not be enabled at your company, or on your specific account.

Your webmail address is the one you type into your browser when you are accessing it from outside your work, minus the https://. For instance, mine is webmail.company.com.

Your domain can be found when you log into your pc at work - for XP, if you have to hit ctrl+alt+delete and then enter your user name and password, use the drop-down menu under the third dialogue box to choose your domain or the local pc. Normally you log into your domain, so what ever is in that box is what you'll need to put in as your domain on the phone. Use your domain credentials (i.e. just username and password) on your phone the same as you would on your work pc.

I have tried both setting it up with Corporate Sync as well as Email. At first it was giving me an unknown host error but I finally found that I needed to add "mail." To the front of my server name. Now it will complete the setup of the account but neither of them show any mail in my inbox. In the Email app I have to use POP for it to be accepted but it still doesn't sync. Anybody have any other thoughts?

I doubt that your email server uses POP, Exchange uses SMTP or X400. Use the Corporate Sync setup for it, not the email.

Just a thought, when it asks for email address, are you including the domain part?

Ok, thanks I will quit trying to use the Email app and stick with Corporate sync. I am not using the domain\email.address.com, I tried it but it didn't work so I know that isn't the issue.

Here is what I am using:
Usernames: domanin\username
Password: *********
Email address: first.last@company.com
Server: I got from my outlook account setup which is in the format of "machine.division.corp.master", I added mail. to the front of it and .com to the end so that it would be accepted. Other than that I didn't know what to use. it ends up being mail.machine.division.corp.master.com

Use secure connection: CHECKED
Verify Certificate: UNCHECKED
Account Name: Work Email

The only other piece of information I have is the URL from my webmail. When I am logged in, it is https://123.123.1.23/exchange/
I tried to use that in the "Server" field both with and without the https:// but it wouldn't accept it.

If you have any other thoughts I would appreciate it!

It looks like others here are steering your correctly. As mentioned there are things that may need to be done to the server for mobile mail or push to work. If your IT guy can't give you domain names then he's probably not able to make the changes to the server either.

Here's how it works at my place:

Outlook Web Access is https://mail.domainname.com/exchange
In your phone for domain, you would only enter "mail.domainname.com" from the above OWA url.

Typically when you login through OWA it prompts you for DOMAINNAME\username
On your phone for username only use your "username"

Email address is simply "username@domain.com"

For you username don't put the domain name there, just your username and in the server url there's not need for .../exchange

I haven't used the Mail app in a while due its failure to sync subfolders - I use Touchdown.

You may need to check the Verify Certificate, and then if it barks at you, tell it okay anyway.

Also, it's kinda odd that you have an IP address instead of a domain name to get to OWA (Outlook Web Access). I guess you could try that without the /exchange....

Thanks OK, I gave "Verify Certificate" a chance but still no luck.

I think the real key is the IP address but not sure how to use it as the server in the setup.
