Android Emulator (27.1.12) bug-fix update released

We just released a new version of the Android Emulator (27.1.12).

This is a bug-fix update.

See the release notes here for details about specific fixes: https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/emulator.html#27-1-12

The release notes mention some new augmented reality capabilities; those actually came with the 27.1.10 update... but we had to wait for some other pieces to be in place before announcing this new functionality.

I also added an important note to the troubleshooting section:
https://developer.android.com/studio/run/emulator.html#quickboot-troubleshooting

"Loading or saving a Quick Boot snapshot is a memory-intensive operation. If you do not have enough RAM free when a load or save operation begins, the operating system may swap the contents of RAM to the hard disk, which can greatly slow the operation. If you experience very slow Quick Boot loads or saves, you may be able to speed these operations by freeing RAM. Closing applications that are not essential for your work is a good way to free RAM."

We think that avoiding these low-RAM conditions will deal with the great majority of instances of Quick Boot loads and saves taking far too long. Of course, if you're swapping the contents of RAM to disk, then a slow disk can make this even worse, so disk speed can be a factor, too. Let us know your experience with this.
