Android File Transfer - no thumbnails?

I downloaded Android File Transfer to transfer photos from my Samsung Galaxy 3 to my Mac. It work, but only shows me the file names, no thumbnails.

Is there another program which allows me to see thumbnails of the photos and files on my phone? I didn't have this problem with my old phone. The computer recognized it as an SD card and allowed me to move files easily in Finder, without the need for a separate program.

You old phone implemented the connection with the usb mass storage (UMS) protocol - all PCs have that built in.

Your new phone uses the Microsoft MTP protocol. From Wikipedia -

"The Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) is an extension to the Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) communications protocol that allows media files to be transferred atomically to and from portable devices."

Windows and now Linux have MTP built in, Mac OS X does not.

Android File Transfer is the free way to add the connection. You can Google for "Mac MTP" to find paid apps for that.

Or you can use wifi to transfer your files. Check in the Play Store for AirDroid or check out "WiFi FTP (WiFi File Transfer)"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nalic.app.wifishare

AirDroid lets you surf your phone from your browser, WiFi FTP from the Finder.

Or you can sync your photos to a cloud service and from there to your Mac. Support for older Macs is being rapidly phased out, otherwise, this is by far the easiest solution. Set up everything to work on wifi, get home after taking pictures, do nothing to your phone or Mac just wait a little bit, and when you login to your Mac, the pictures are just magically there.
