People clearly bought the iPad because it's by Apple. Tablets have been around for years and no-one bothered with them then, and the tablets now do a better job at being a tablet than the iPad.

An Android tablet, as long as it wasn't some cheap knock off (read: make HTC do it), could be miles better than an iPad, in my opinion.
 
I was just asking about this (should have read deeper I guess) in another thread. If it worked and the price was right I'd get one ASAP. Can't wait.
 
Could someone please explain to me, what the iPad is for?
I really haven't got any idea why someone would want it - other than the bling-bling factor.

Is it to be considered a laptop with touchscreen?

Or is it primarily an online reader for boks, news etc?

It is supposed to be the bridge between an iPhone and the full Macbook.

This is Apple's opinion. More realistically however, us real people know it's actually pretty pointless. You can buy much better laptops and even other tablets now for the same/less money.
 
I can fit my Android phone in my pocket, surf the web on it, listen to music, etc. When I need something portable but more fully-featured, I have my trusty laptop which is far more powerful (even as a basic $500 model from last year) than any of the tablets I've seen leaked yet.

Until I find a need for a tablet device like this (or the iPad) I have no interest in either.

Totally agree with you. I have had (still have) an iPhone 3GS and now have a Nexus One. Also have a netbook and a main desktop pc. I see no need for a 'bridge' between any of these devices.
My N1 acts as a perfect instant on the go internet/media device, my laptop is a more portable fully fledge internet/media device and my pc does (almost) all of the above with the addition of dual 24" full HD monitors and over 10 times the processing power.

What possible reason is there to have anything additional that would only mildly bridge a slight gap. Laptop/Netbook without a keyboard.

To me - it's just a laptop with touchscreen - and an Apple on top.

I can see a few limited business applications for the iPad ... maybe inventory control using a spreadsheet type program (enter the product code and the info appears - then enter quantity) ... maybe for sketching room layouts or diagrams of some sort ... maybe pulling up product or service manuals for service techs. All of that might be easier with a pad type device than a laptop or a smaller phone. (Think of the device the UPS Drivers or the FedEx Drivers use to obtain your signature.) But I really don't see the practical day-to-day use by the "average Joe". Unless some really cool apps come along - like a camera adapter that clips on so you can point and shoot and have a really large image to edit with the built in software - I think the novelty will wear off.
