Android launcher version

Just bought new Asus TF700 as previous TF300 has cracked touch screen. Have started and updated Android version on TF700 so that both units are working on Android 4.2.1. Under settings on the TF300 I have an option titled "launcher" which then gives the option to change the launcher from old version 4.1 launcher to new version 4.2 launcher (see attached photo). This option is not on the settings list on TF700 and the launcher appears to be the older 4.1 version despite upgrading the Android system (photo attached). Can anyone tell me how to get the launcher change option and why this hasn't automatically appeared after the upgrade?

The launcher is an app, it's not part of Android (the operating system). You can download any launcher you want from Play - and there are a lot of them.

I don't have the device.

The message you quote is the inverse of what you said. It says you are on 4.2 and it is giving you the option to switch to 4.1.t

It looks to me like the new device has a newer system version and no longer has the option to use the old launcher and it seems to me that it is doing what you said you wanted it to do.

Rukbat,

Thanks. I am pretty sure I haven't downloaded an app to change the launcher. Not sure about your answer either. Android versions do come with a native launcher and this does very with the Android version. The two options I am presented with on my old machine are both Android launchers not third party launchers.

Thank you. The Android version listed under Settings, About tablet are both the same. The build numbers are the same on both machines. The problem is that the new machine, TF700, seems to be using the old launcher not the new one. I'm not concerned about being about to change launcher per se, I'm only concerned to get the new launcher as I prefer the layout. The photo in my original post of my current TF700 launcher screen looks to be Android 4.1 not 4.2 despite 4.2 being installed. I have attached a screen shot from my old TF300 to compare to the TF700 screenshot. The TF300 screenshot appears to be Android 4.2.
