Android mail question - delete email message using touchscreen?

Using the regular Android email application (and using Zimbra here at school), I used to be able to delete an email message I'm viewing with an option using a "delete" button on the screen itself.

Ever since I got the OTA update to Froyo, It appears I no longer have that option. At least I haven't found it yet. Anyone know how to do this?

Because otherwise I have to press the far left button on the phone itself, wait for the phone to respond, then go through a menu to delete the message (much slower).

Can you delete an email message just using the touchscreen anymore in good ol' regular Android mail? If so..HEEEEEEEEEEEEELP! :)

From the Inbox, you can long-press the email and select "Delete" from the pop-up menu. (By "long-press", I mean hold your finger down for second or two.)

From within the opened email, you can press the "Delete" button at the bottom.

Thanks for the quick reply! And am halfway home...but...

The delete from the Inbox worked great. So that mystery is solved. Many thanks.

As for the open email...I can't find the delete button/option on the screen itself. Where is it? I looked at the top and bottom of the email. Tried to long press the actual message itself. Nothing. I'm obviously doing something wrong here.

On my Froyo-based LG Optimus S, I'm using what I believe is the stock Android email app (version 2.2.1) and the stock Android Gmail app (version 2.3.2). Both display a prominent on-screen "Delete" button a the bottom of the email. If you were using the same mail app as me, you couldn't possibly miss the on-screen "Delete" button. So there's obviously a significant difference in our software, or the way it behaves on our phones. You didn't mention what type of phone you have, so it's hard to know. Whenever you post a question here, you should provide your phone model, OS revision, and firmware revision so that others who have the same can help you.

Well, I am not the most technically savvy with these phones, so please bear with me.

I am running a Sprint Epic 4G and running with whatever version of that mail app that the OTA Android 2.21 firmware gave me.

All I know is under 2.1, I had the delete button onscreen. And after the update, I didn't have it. I just figured it was hidden away or possibly even gone.

So many other annoying things changed (the Notification tab moved from center to left), my Gmail tabs also moved around, and seemingly the phone's sensitivity to landscape/portrait display is overly increased.

But right now it would be nice to delete mail onscreen since it is so much slower to use the phone buttons to delete the displayed email.
