Android market question

Flav

Lurker
Hi, we have a free app on the market which we will be taking off in a short time. Will want the app to still be available for users who already have the app, but not new users.

What is the best way to go about this ? Does android market provide some support for this ?

The reason is that we're uploading a new paid version of the app, but we want the old app to still be available for users that already downloaded the app when it was free.

Thank you!

Why don't you do something like send out an announcement, informing existing users your moving to a paid model & offer them a free upgrade to the paid version, them it should be as simple as the existing just upgrading & anyone new would have to pay to download. The main thing is communication, that all your existing users are aware your moving to a paid model & you are being gracious enough to offer your current user base the free upgrade. Alot of times you used to see devs pull the sneaky switch to paid app through an upgrade without saying a word about it, which you know, leads to some nasty comments & 1 star ratings... Any rate, just my 2¢, goodluck.

so, normaly, Android market does not provide a way for the app the still be available for download for users that already have it ? Something like iOS's AppStore has, based on Apple ID ?

Once you pay for an app, it will be under "my apps" & you can re download it @ any time with any device your signed into that google account with, did you create your paid model & upload it as a new app? If so, that's we're you'd run into issues, rather then uploading it as an upgrade to your existing free model.
