Android market updates EVERY NIGHT - how to make less frequent?

Here's what I don't want: turning off automatic notifications, then never manually doing them and running old software.

But at the same time, the daily downloads in the AM are terribly annoying.

Is there a middle ground? Can you set the Android Market to update, say, once a week?

If you're rooted, freeze or quarantine "Market Updater"

Mine only updates when I go to Market and tell it to update.
