Android Music player with kenwood deck - control usb music from android

Hi, I recently bought a galaxy layer and was wondering if it is possible to connect it to my kenwood deck (KDC-mp342u) and control the music on the android itself?

let me explain.

I used to have an ipod that when connected via usb, you could choose the music on the ipod and it would play through the deck. But when I connect my android, it treats it like a flash drive and I have to select the music via the deck (which is a pain in the ass, not to mention no playlist functions or shuffle.) So, is there any programs or anything that I can do to control the music from the device itself? I downloaded the kenwood app, but once the usb is plugged in, the app doesn't work because the device is turned into a mass storage device. This is extremely frustrated and I don't want to have to back to iOS. Any help?

Can you let us know what device and version of Android you're currently running on the phone? That'll make it easier for us be able to give you a workable answer. Thanks,
OB

As far as I know, no. Most car headunits use Apple's proprietary USB accessory protocol (which allows you to control the device and listen over USB). If its not an Apple device, they will default to treating it as a flash drive.

It wasn't until recently that Android had a similar capability. However, your car headunit would have to support it (which I highly doubt it does, you would know if it did).

So yeah, you're sort of stuck up the creek on this one. You have two options, either the standard AUX jack, or Bluetooth audio if your headunit supports it.

EDIT: Well crap, I didn't realize this thread is nearly 2 weeks old. Well, if you ever read this (you've only had one post since then, so I doubt you ever will), there you go.

I have the same problem - bought the deck when I had an iPhone, but then I left the dark side. I will have to try the bluetooth option. Usually I just start the playlist I want and use the auxillary jack instead. Not exactly the functionality I want, but it does make due. The deck is too new to buy a new one, but I will have to look into android compatible models as well.

Bluetooth works well with my In-Phase budget head unit and Xperia U (ICS) phone. I've also got an ebay bluetooth audio receiver plugged in to the line-in on my home stereo. the sound quality is way better than I expected for a
