Android newbie runs into a wall!pls help!

hi people!

I've just bought my first android, a fairly low end Samsung Galaxy Y ( gingerbread). I've been exploring it for a few hours and love it, the screen resolution though probably nothing in this qHD age is still light years ahead of my basic nokia!!

I've run into a wall though -downloaded a number of apps, and several of them aren't displaying, either on the Home screens or under Applications. I can find them if I go to Settings, Applications, Manage Applications, so I can confirm they've been installed.

Is there a way to put these on the homescreen (some that I downloaded are shwoing up on the homescreen) like the other apps? How do I launch them otherwise?

I would really appreciate all comments and assistance.

Thanks very much :)

Maybe they are widgets?

Harry
appreciate the quick reply!

My apologies, I'm a completely ignorant noob on this one

So, if they are widgets, wouldn't they have icons? I mean how do I ummm 'open' them?

I can see them installed in 'manage application', but can't do anything from that menu.

To add a widget to a screen long press on the screen and a menu will pop-up with widget as a choice. Click that then scroll through all the widgets you have installed. It'll then appear on the screen.

Just as a reminder, not all widgets come with an icon in the app drawer. Generally, those that do are customizeable widgets with global settings for the widgets.

This also works for apps, long press and choose applications (as well as widgets, shortcuts, folders....), and the app icon will appear on the screen.
