android on the fake iPhone knockoff?(Goophone)

karthius

Newbie
I am looking to buy a new phone within the next week or so. I been torn between iOS(iPhone) and of course android(done with blackberries + windows phone don't "WHOA" me) anyway. I pretty much decided on iPhone4 due to design but i always preferred Android but i figured i can just "jail break an iPhone". while i was set on this i was browsing the web and came across something called "Goophone v5"

I'm a noobie that can post link but you can take a look of the

Goophonev5 vs iPhone4s video on youtube along with other reviews(english) with this phone. (It uses all apples parts)

As you can see the form factor and design is an exact replica(clone) of iPhone but with the OS of Android 2.3.3 i believe.

Here are the stats.

Support GSM & WCDMA 3G network
- 512MB RAM / 512MB ROM, 8GB/16GB storage
- 5MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera
- Support WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS
- Android 2.3 OS, iPhone UI, both UI inside
Processor MTK MT6573

and yes it supports the retna display( i think someone working at the apple factory in china is taking iphone shells and putting in their parts). Point is i know this is a "clone" but unlike others this supports a full a legit OS(Android) and seems to be very highquality(from the reviews seen)

It can be rooted(and get a rom flash) and the battery life currently sits at 6-7hrs. and i know that can be improved with set cpu and other apps(list some if you know any)

+ how good is Processor MTK MT6573???

My suggestion to you is, "choose one that best fits your needs." It seems that you already have your preference. :)

This is totally my opinion...

I can never trust "clones" because build quality can be an issue. I mean you can take the risk it's up to you but just be careful when buying clones of any type of electronic.

I'm impressed at some of the videos I've seen in the past for the goophone but there's still a trust issue with me that I can't get over.

Yea i was iffy saying it was a "clone" but this "clone" impressed the crud out of me. I was honestly sold after a few videos i always preferred Android OS over iOS. the + is that the parts are interswappable with iPhone parts. My issues is with ROMs. How would i go about that whole process(im new to this) are ROMs based on the OS or Device? If its device i might be screwed. ><

Yes, ROMs and the root process are device specific. So if you get this phone, since it is a clone, you will not be able to go to just any Android forum such as this forum for different ROMs.

I'm just wondering if this post is legit, or if you're just marketing the goophone v5.

I found the same exact post on another forum, found here:

Hopefully OP can chime in, but they just makes me even more iffy on whether I should buy one or not.

What about the iPhone appeals to you? If you mean the way the launcher looks/works, I'd suggest you check out MIUI. It's a ROM that supports a good number of devices and emulates the iOS feel pretty well. Even more of the 'budget' line that has good reviews and isn't a clone.

Or is it the form factor of the iPhone 4? There are also similar form factors on Android devices that are not clones. A lot of HTC and Samsung devices are rectangular like that.

I meant for my girlfriend, not me.

No don't worry far from it!! i am actually leaning towards the iPhone about now. I been posting on many different sites to help gain some knowledge that's all. i Found this one and xda have been most helpful. I just copied and pased my thread from android central to here it gets boring trying to say the same thing over and over apologizes.

There is a nice long support thread of roms and other things at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389930&page=17 (yes i posted there too)

and it seems to be good i am still in a hot debate tho. Used iPHone or New Goophone the part i like the most is that the phone would be"unique" in its own. It be something nice to "brag" about yea i have the iPhones shell but the power of Android.

We're pretty tolerant of the iPhone around here, but frankly, I doubt anyone here really understands this iPhone shell bragging that you're on about. It may be something special in your circle of friends, but few here find that package superior, simply different. And yes, like a lot of folks here, I know all about the iPhone. Just don't care.

If you want an Android phone, get a good one. If you want a cheap iPhone get the 3gs.

These are my personal opinions.

Best luck to you on this.

Hmm well i would get the 4(not 3gs eeek!!!) and as for just get a good android its really not THAT simple on the count of the only android phones that appeal to me are all CDMA(verizion) and i am on ATT(no i can't change carriers like that) i am still a college student + bill is on family so i can't just leave. I must say the droid razar/bionic and droid 3 i would get without a doubt if a GSM option was out there but sadly there isn't

There's a gsm version of the razr and Droid 3. Both are unlocked. :)

If your decision is down to the appearance of the phone - wanting something that looks like an iphone - surely knock-offs are the opposite of cool? Even a bit desperate?

If it's functionality you're after, I'd suggest that you're better off sacrificing some fancy features in return for good build quality.

It's a false economy buying a cheap phone if you've gotta replace it in 6 months. . .

Good luck!

... or 6 weeks or 6 days or 6 hours or DOA.

sadly how a phone looks is an issue for me personally. Buying an iPhone isn't an issue(that's where i am leaning towards right now 97% sure i will) but before i bought one i decided to look around to see if there was a droid that fit the form factor for me personally(the ones that did are cdma locked to verizion) so this gooapple caught my interest in the sense of best of both worlds.(like i said i prefer the android OS but the iPhones design). I though it would be a good phone but from what i am hearing it would seem like i get shitty iphone and shitty droid into 1 so i am straying away from it slowly

The iPhone 4 internals are pretty good, single core processor, many would compare the internals to the Samsung Galaxy S. The Samsung Galaxy S 2 is dual core, is considered superior, and competes with the iP4s dual core model.

The goophone internals are low end, definitely the worst of both worlds.

There is really nothing wrong with choosing personal electronics and including the look and style that appeals to you. Many in the Android camp don't, but honestly, just as many do.

There's no perfect phone, just the phone right for you on this go around.

If you go with the iP4, remember that it was your Android pals that saved you a costly mistake and when you're ready to try a smartphone ecology with more choices, we'll be here for you.

Just out of curiosity - which Verizon phones did you find so appealing?
