Apps Android OS upgrades affecting applications

How does the Android operating system avoid that applications will also work on future versions?

For instance, if I upgrade my Wordpress installation, some plug-ins may need to be updated or won't work anymore until the developer upgrades the plug-in.

How come this is not an issue with Android applications?

Or is it?

I think you answered your own question. I would hope developers are getting the new OS SDK etc in advance of the new OS update going public. Updating apps takes time and money from the developer(s) point of view. As a non-android developer, I am sympathetic to their plight. From my observations, apps with corporate backing are being updated faster. Independent apps are probably being updated in a developers "spare" time, especially for a free app. Back to your original question, go to your apps website for OS version support/upgrade updates. Also contact their customer support. The more questions they get on any issue, the faster it should be escalated.

I have a few apps I am waiting to be made "FROYO Friendly".
1. iheartradio
2. sirius xm online
3. scanner radio
A common issue is any audio streaming app is looping short segments. It started out as just a 3G issue. Now it is happening on WIFI also. Not sure which ones are doing what. Kinda tired of thinking about it. Decided to just wait until I get prompted to update by the Android Market or notified by the app developer. sirius xm radio has an opt-in email list for customers to be notified when a Froyo Friendly version is ready.
