Help Android OS uses up all my data

[Android OS uses my data]

I don't use a lot of data. Maybe like a gigabyte a month. But this "Android OS" almost uses up a whole gigabyte of data, which is a lot for someone whon shares 3 gb with someone else. Anyone know how to stop it from using so much? I tried to find answers online but all the answers required me rooting my phone and I don't want to do that. Turn of data when your not using it. I only turn mine on if I need internet and not close to a WiFi connection.
