Apps Android Personal Information Management API

Hello Everyone,
Guys, I am developing a widget application where I need to access the Personal Information Management on the device...Stuff like address book management, calendar/Appointment management, task management. Though I am able to find out how to play with Address Book but still can't figure out how can one retrieve or add new calendar/appointment items programmatically. Is there any API or class available to do this task.
