Hi, all I'm a newbie planning to buy my first Android phone. One of the main objectives is to use it as a Mobile Access Point. I'd appreciate your input regarding: 1 Specifications - I've a tight budget. What is the minimum hardware requirements (eg, dual core needed?) to run the Mobile AP app reliably? Up to two computers will be connected to it via Wi-Fi. 2 Is Android 4.0 needed for good Mobile AP performance? 3 Can users of Mobile AP share their experience with using an Android phone to provide a Wi-Fi hotspot? You don't need ICS or dual-core to do this. It works nicely on my Infuse, which is neither. Just be aware that your carrier will more than likely impose an extra charge for doing this... even if you are on an unlimited data plan (at least in the U.S.). There are ways around this of course.

Cell phone providers usually don't like you to do this unless you have one of their specific access point plans and some of cell phone providers clearly state in their Terms that you aren't supposed to do this. There is a way around this that I just set up and it goes like this...
I want to use my Samsung Galaxy S1 phone as a mobile access point but I do NOT want my cellphone provider to know I'm doing this. I installed the Firefox for Mac 'User Agent Changer 2.6.8' addon with an Android header. Anyway, that is supposed to fool your cellphone provider into thinking that your higher than normal data usage is coming from your phone only, hence no real way to prove you're using it as an access point.
I'm trying to figure out how to test this now and also how to do this with my iPad.

LG OV with Virgin Mobile, 2 tablets, 2 laptops and 1 PC all tethered to it
though 98% of all my data use is mobile related.
And I feel I can use the data I pay for anyway I want, plus Im in a no high speed zone, nothing but dial up. Some BS about our underground utility hook ups. [ no over head lines]
