Android phone options

I recently had an incident with my phone and it is now destroyed:(

instead of simply getting another G1 i would like to first explore my options.
I know that at this moment the G1 is the ONLY official android phone released in the US.
Especially being the open platform that android is, I know that the OS can be put on any phone which means that even though the G1 may be the only OFFICIAL phone connected to a service provider, there must be smaller manufacturer out there that have created the own phones with android and are unlocked to work with any GSM provider.

So do any of you know of any noteworthy phone like this so that I can explore anything else that I could possibly get other any the G1.

The HTC Magic (MyTouch 3G) is rumored to be released in july for $180

The Samsung i7500 just cleared the fcc so the rumor is that it will be released in nov. for an unknown price.

Other than that, I'm not sure if other people here have installed Android on other phones- but I have no idea about that. Maybe somebody can help you out with that.

BTW, what happened to your phone?

went down on my motorcycle, phone came out of the belt holster and busted all over the street, plus a couple cars probably drove over it before I got a chance to pick it up....

Battery cover was cracked and wouldn't stay on, battery was pretty torn up but still works, but the screen was cracked so when I turn it on all I see is a bunch of lines and colors all over the screen.
