Android phone without DATA plan

Newbie
I'm on T-mobile Even More for Families 750 Talk and unlimited text plan ( NO DATA )

I'm thinking about buying the Galaxy Nexus ( International version, Unlocked )
Will T-Mobile force me to sign up to their data plan if i put my T-mobile sim card with no data plan into my Galaxy Nexus.

i heard that T-mobile force their customer to get a data plan if they find out that you use a smartphone, i also heard that if you use a Non T-mobile branding phone ( International or AT&T version will not get force onto a data plan because T-mobile don't know the IMEI, therefore they don't know that you use a smartphone and cannot force you to sign up for their data plan )

Is that true ? have anyone successfully using an android smartphone on T-mobile without data plan ?

p/s ?i think forcing someone to sign up for a data plan is really stupid. I spend most of my day in a Wifi zone, so data plan is a total waste of money.

thanks for the info, but i want to hear from someone that have use android smartphone successfully without data plan on t-mobile.

i tried that, their Customer support says that you need data plan for the phone to function properly. when i ask them that if i put my sim card in my smartphone, will they force me to sign up for a data plan, they keeps saying that the phone will not work without a data plan. ( total BS )

If your on Prepaid or on the Value plan, you don't NEED data.
For contracts, if you upgrade to a smartphone then you need to. If you don't want data but need a smartphone, upgrade to a flip phone or a non-smartphone and buy your own and stick the sim card into it.

They DO force you into a data plan, BUT you can call right afterwards and say you decided to return/sell your smartphone for your old phone so you don't need it anymore.

You don't really need a data plan for a smartphone but you will need a data connection. You can use WiFi for this if needed, and there are apps that will close the 3G/4G data connection should you need to do this. If you are connected to WiFi, it will replace the 4G connection while WiFi is available.

To do it right, you would need a ROM from T*Mobile. Try to ask the tech when you dial 611 (he may not can help you though, but it's worth a try). The Google Voice thing is a completely seperate deal and it will crap out after you talk for a half hour or so. T*Mobile throttles your data speeds back after 2GB (on new plans, older ones may still be good for 5GB). That may be a concer for VoIP through T*Mobile's data connection. ...but if you're on WiFi, who cares? :D
