Android planned obsolescence; Why support Iphone?

It seems like one of the main advantages of having an android based phone has disappeared. The ability to functionally use the SD card as a depository for podcasts and other items is gone; WHY? They are paying their people way to much to design crap. What was the motivation to allow internal memory to become overloaded? They allow an external memory chip, why not make it practical in its use? Why make it obsolete? Its a short matter of time that my 32gb internal will be overloaded and meanwhile my SD card is 90% open space.
 
The primary purpose of the SD card in Android is for media storage. It seems odd that your phone does not allow you to use the card this way. Are you sure it's not a quirk of the particular app you are using to store these files?

In 4.4 Android did get a bit over-protective of the SD card (a security model that was over-zealously applied), but in 5 onward apps should be able to write to their own directory on the card, or to any directory as long as they request that access and you grant it (something not all developers, even now, have bothered to implement). So without knowing the details of your problem it could be a limitation of the app (developer not using available features) rather than the OS per se. Of course apps should always be able to read data stored on SD.
 
If you're not able to save anything to your microSD card the problem does sound more to be a problem with your card itself. Have you tried to reformat it and if so were there any error messages? Also, if you have a computer or laptop try removing the card and seeing if you can access the card normally. And just re-seating the card in its slot when you put it back into your phone could inadvertently be a solution.
 
It would help if you mention what device and what Android version you have. I don't do podcasts, but I have Spotify Premium and I can download the songs to SD card.
 
I am using a brand new LG G5 (because of the replaceable battery option) Android 7.0.
Yes on the songs, Yes on the photos, I need podcasts and books. It seems as if, from what I have read for the past 2 days is that Many of the apps no longer have the ability to write to the card. I am using Podcast attic, been using it for 3 years on my Samsung S5. I needed 32GB vs 16 on the S5. I also have "app manager III" Almost No options to move apps to SD card.

The card works fine. Brand new and works for some transfer of phots.

The Main application that I use and "Cherish" is PodCast Attic. They have the option in the app itself, in settings to save podcasts to an SD card. When It checked to do that, a message appears saying that Android will not allow the files to be stored on the SD card only internal memory. At times I may have and/or want 60 or more podcasts to be downloaded. Now they all end up in internal memory. So do books on tape, a massive waste of internal memory.

It does sound like an issue with your particular device type possibly. Are you using the latest version of Podcast Addict? I've used Podcast Addict on a couple of Oppo phones without problems, and have been able to put the podcasts on the SD with it.

I can't find a "Podcast Attic" app, but assuming that's autocorrect gone mad I've just tried "podcast addict" on my tablet (my current phone doesn't have an SD slot) and it told me that it couldn't use a custom folder on SD but could use its own folder. This isn't correct - it is an example of what I said earlier, the developer not asking for the permission to write to the card generally - but it was still offering to write to SD.

Now this is a different device and a different Android version, but was all I had to test with.
 
I've managed to find an Android phone with a MicroSD card slot since the T-mobile G1 came out. Some company is always making one. I was never into installing apps to the card so when Google decided to stop supporting that, it was no big thing.

My MicroSD cards are full of Music, Movies, and Photos. There's plenty of room for apps in internal storage.
 
I use an LG G5 SE, running Android 7.0 Nougat, and I've never had this issue. It seems that the developer of that application hasn't been bothered to request permission to write to the SD Card. Try going into settings, and allowing the app to access storage. This might fix your issue.

It's not just a permission issue. The app code has to specifically write data to external storage. If it hasn't been implemented to do that, then it will continue to write to internal storage, regardless of whether the permission is granted.
