Android Receipt Barcode Scanner [Quebec]

Hi all,

There are many apps read barcodes. In Quebec, there was a law passed that POS systems must print a barcode on the receipt at the bottom.

I would like to find an app that can scan in this barcode, then enter it in a spreadsheet type format, to keep track of spending. Date, Storename, Total.

I can't find anything like this, nor can I find a scanner app that will let me use the phone camera upright (I always have to put the phone sideways - anyone know why this is?).

Thanks in advance!

This is a great idea. So do you get a list of what's on the receipt if you scan the barcode? I too would be interested to know if there is an app for this.

I got something from the market once called barcode scanner keyboard or maybe just barcode keyboard. Functions as a keyboard* so it can input into any app. It's a regular gingerbread-looking keyboard that has a scan button at the bottom of it. Worked good for me for receiving a bunch of
equip I needed to log the SNs of.

I think it works upright too but it's been a while.

Seems kinda crappy they legislated something like that though, will cost lots of money for businesses to convert. If this is something the consumer likes businesses should take notice and do this on their own without being forced into it.

"So do you get a list of what's on the receipt if you scan the barcode?"

-I don't know what's on the barcode as I can't seem to find an app that will just decode the barcode and list the info, all the apps seem to scan and search on the web for products, prices, etc. If you know of an app that can just decode and list the info I can test and provide an answer.

"Seems kinda crappy they legislated something like that though, will cost lots of money for businesses to convert. "

-This is due to the heavy curruption in this province as well as meny businesses not declaring their sales to Canada revenue. Business that haven't complied are heavily fined now as this has been annouced for a while and everyone has been given lots of time to upgrade.

Cheers

The information in the barcode is the GST number of the sales place, it contains no info in terms of date, name or total.... TOTAL bummer.

Happy Holidays
