android remembering playback position of audiobooks

How can I do this. I love to listen to audiobooks and podcasts all day. The podcaSts remember their spot using salling sync software but my mp3 audiobooks do not.

I put an m4a file (just a renamed m4b) in the podcasts directory and it kept it's bookmark, even after playing a bunch of other audio. It shows up in the podcasts playlist.

Acast is a free, decent, podcast client that allows you to import a directory from your sd card. I'm using that, but the other solution is great too.
